California Coast
They came by on foot, by wagon train and by ship in the 1800's to
reach the shores of California. The beauty that they found was
breathtaking. Rugged coastlines with towering redwoods, teaming
with wildlife. Today you can visit the North Coast of California
from the comfort of your motorcoach and follow Highway I as it
winds its way down the coast.
Ride into the Past on 19th Century Steam Trains
In the 1880s, steam locomotives were used to haul giant redwood
logs out of the mountains. Roaring Camp's steam engines date from
1890 and are amongst the oldest and most authentically preserved
narrow-gauge steam engines providing regularly scheduled passenger
service in America. Travel over trestles, through towering redwood
groves and up a winding narrow-gauge grade to the summit of Bear
Mountain as conductors narrate the history of Roaring Camp, the
railroad of the forest!
Winchester Mystery House
In 1884, a wealthy widow named Sarah L. Winchester began a
construction project which lated 38 years. The Victorian mansion,
designed and built by the Winchester Rifle heiress, is filled with
so many unexplained oddities, that it has come to be known as the
Winchester Mystery House - an architectural marvel. Unlike most
homes of its era, this 160-room Victorian mansion had modern
heating and sewer systems, gas lights, working elevators and 47
fireplaces. |
